Drug and Medication Recalls
Drug recalls are issued when a medicine may not be what its label promises — an impurity turns up in testing, tablets are stronger or weaker than specified, a sterile injectable can't be guaranteed sterile, or bottles were labeled with the wrong product. The FDA classifies each one by how much risk it carries, and manufacturers usually recall specific lot numbers rather than an entire medication line.
Important context before you read any of these: a recall is not a reason to stop taking a prescribed medicine on your own. For many conditions, an interrupted dose carries more risk than the recall itself. The useful move is to check your lot number against the notice and talk to your pharmacist, who can confirm what they dispensed and arrange a replacement. Nothing on this site is medical advice.

Frequently asked questions
Should I stop taking my medication if it's been recalled?+
Not on your own. Stopping a prescribed medicine abruptly can be riskier than the recall — that's especially true for medicines treating seizures, heart conditions, mental health conditions and infections. Contact your pharmacist or prescriber, who can check your lot number and arrange a replacement.
Where is the lot number on my medicine?+
On manufacturer bottles it's usually stamped near the bottom edge or on the back, alongside the expiration date. If a pharmacy label covers it, your pharmacy can look up the exact lot they dispensed to you from their records.
What does a drug recall actually mean?+
It means the manufacturer or the FDA identified a problem with specific batches — contamination, an impurity, incorrect potency, sterility concerns, or a labeling error. It does not necessarily mean anyone was harmed, and it usually applies only to the lot numbers named in the notice.
